On July 15, 2019 Massimo Cavalletti will reprise the role of Francesco Moor in I masnadieri, with the forces of the Teatro alla Scala of Milan on tour to the Savonlinna Opera Festival, in a production by David McVicar and under the musical direction of Maestro Michele Mariotti, the first of three performances running through July 20, 2019. As in Milan, he will share the stage with Lisette Oropesa (Amalia), Fabio Sartori (Carlo) and Michele Pertusi (Massimiliano).
Massimo Cavalletti’s Milan performances were cheered, among others, by the prestigious financial daily Il Sole 24 ORE which described Francesco’s most important moment, the dream scene, as “well recited”. Others, such as Opera Wire, praised his “rich barolo tone and fierce declamation”, or his “imposing baritone” (Opera Magazine NL). Francesco Moor was the third Verdi role the Tuscan baritone added to his repertoire this season, after acclaimed debuts as Conte di Luna in Il trovatore (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and Teatro Regio Turin) and Giorgio Germont in La traviata (Palm Beach Opera).
This is Massimo Cavalletti’s second outing to the Savonlinna Festival, after his portrayal of Riccardo in I puritani on tour with the Teatro Real Madrid in 2017.
After these Finnish performances, Massimo Cavalletti’s upcoming engagements include Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Conte di Luna in Il trovatore and De Siriex in Fedora at the Teatro alla Scala, Marcello in La bohème and Conte di Luna at the Teatro Verdi of Salerno.
