Massimo Cavalletti to make his Canadian debut

On December 31, 2017, Massimo Cavalletti will make his Canadian debut taking part in “Bravissimo! Opera’s Greatest Hits”, Toronto’s classiest New Year’s Event taking place at the famous Roy Thomson Hall. He will share the stage with Italian sopranos Barbara Bargnesi and Francesca Sassu, Canadian mezzo-soprano Carolyn Sproule and tenor David Pomeroy, under the musical direction of Maestro Marco Guidarini leading the Opera Canada Symphony and the Opera Canada Chorus.

“It is my first ever New Year Gala Concert, and I am excited to make my debut in Canada, another important step in my career”, states the Tuscan baritone. “ It’s a wonderful chance to bring my voice and artistic contribution to a gala concert together with other excellent singers; I am particularly happy to be reunited with my dear friend and colleague Francesca Sassu. I will sing some of my very favorite arias, such as Figaro’s cavatina from Il barbiere di Siviglia, Escamillo’s “Toreador Song” from Carmen and Renato’s “Eri tu” from Un ballo in maschera. The evening will end with Robert Burns’ requisite “Auld Lang Syne”, a New Year Eve’s classic, followed by the most famous “Toast” in opera, the “Brindisi” from La traviata. I am sure that the warmth of the Canadian audience and the beautiful music that we will make together with the chorus and the orchestra will help keep us warm and shelter us from the great Canadian winter cold!”
